I began taking Scott Eaton's Class figure sculpting class a few weeks ago and I'm really liking it so far. I have to admit it's a ton of work but I'm trying my best to keep up. Between this, my Microsoft mentorships (yep plural, I have 2) and still seeing the family... life has been a bit nuts. I'll keep on posting this stuff as I go.

Head Study

For this exercise I took a head I had originally created for the the Russian Character below. I wanted try to take a "very" male head and make it female.

Lucia Von Bardas

No DOF
This is another character I did a while back for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2. I added a pose and did some additional modeling for her after the fact.

Gambit

Here's the final image of Gambit. Going to post some turn arounds and he'll be finished. Fun character to design but I'll be happy to move onto something else. Learned a lot with this one... Crits and comments are welcome, I'll put that energy to the next one ;)

Gambit: Zbrush render test

Need to do some final texturing and add the jacket back in. Rendered in Zbrush and comped together in PS.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Finally got around to posting some of the characters I worked on for MUA2. I got to work on thsi project before and after I had a stint working on COD World at War. It was definitly the wonder bread of that project sandwich!
Special recognition goes out to David Duong who also worked on Spiderman with me. Dave has since went into design school in NY and is doing some pretty awesome stuff. Miss you Dave!

Been awhile

Here's something I am currently workin' on... Textures all hand painted. I had planned to do a homage to Walter Bishop (John Noble) but because of some trademarking and blah blah I strayed a bit. I love that character soooooo much! I want to revisit the earlier version at some point and do a maquette with the whole body , but first gotta finish Remembering Omery!!! mmmmm priorities with my old men :-)

Just for fun

Just chillin' looking at some vfx make up work and got inspired to do a quick sketch. Did this in about 20 minutes. Now off to Remembering Omery...

Textureing update

Here's the latest update. It looks a little hot (lighting) on my 21 inch dell lcd but on my cintiq it looks good so... I'm hoping most lcds are around the same gamma settings as that screen. Anyway, still feel like I have more to do on the head, most of my time has been spent on the hair cards with more work needed on the hair line. I'll post the texture sheets at the very end.
Any feedback would be great!

Tank Girl Quick Sketch

Playing around with the idea of redesigning Tank Girl at some point so to get the juices flowing I did a quick sketch of the character in Zbrush. I added with some lighting and color in PS. Somewhat inspired by by Brian Bolland's illustrations.

Mirslov

So this is another marketing piece I'm doing for work. Render was composited using all Zbrush renders using similar methods to this article on Zbrush Central.

Another practice sculpt

Doing this for the written part of my thesis. It's an example of a quick sketch started from a Zbrush sphere. Took about an hour to do.

3dCoat

So I've started playing with 3d coat.... pretty sweet. Hair in it is awesome. So the biggest challenges I've had with this particular sculpt is that at a certain point it becomes hard to smooth areas, and hard to control surfaces exactly how I want. I think the voxel volume gets way to thick at times causing everything to slow way down, so I need to figure out a way to control the thickness better. I think my gfx card also might be slowing me down quite a bit - no cuda.
Adding geo however is really simple, using either the snake object, primitives, or even the sphere voxel brush to add voxels to sculpt on. I think if you plan well (splitting up geo) you could easily get a full character done in here. I'm doing some more sculpts so keep an eye on the blog.
